Talking to Cortex: plan, questions and approvals

How to ask Cortex for changes on a Made by Cortex site, follow its plan, answer its questions, and stop or undo a request.

On a Made by Cortex site, every change starts in the chat. Here you learn how to ask, how to follow what Cortex does, and how to undo it if you don't like it.

Asking for a change

Write in the Ask Cortex for anything… box and press Send to Cortex. The more specific you are, the better: say what you want and where on the site.

You can give it more context:

  • Images: attach up to 4 per message with the paperclip, by pasting or by dragging them in. Say in your own words what they're for: "it's my logo, put it in the menu" or "use it only as inspiration".
  • Marking up an image: tap the thumbnail and draw on it with Pen, Highlighter or Box. Press Save. If the image goes on your site, it's used without your marks.
  • Links: paste the address of a page. Cortex opens it when it starts.
  • Parts of your site: use Select in the preview. See Selecting in the preview.

The box is also where you choose the model, or leave it on Auto. See Choosing the model.

Following the plan

Before changing anything, Cortex writes its plan. You'll see "Task 2 of 3" and a bar that moves forward. The current task shows its steps live, and finished ones get crossed off.

When it's done, Cortex leaves you a summary and the list of Files it changed. If you only asked a question, it answers without changing anything.

Answering questions

Sometimes Cortex needs you to decide something. It shows you a few options and marks one as Recommended. Pick one, or write Another answer… and press Answer.

Giving approval

Cortex asks for your OK before it installs something new on your site or deletes files. You'll see "Shall I go on? I need your OK for:" with the list.

Press Go ahead to continue, or write what you'd like changed. Without your OK, Cortex won't do it.

Stopping a request

While Cortex works, the send button turns into Stop. When you stop, nothing is saved and the preview goes back to the saved version.

Stopping can cost credits

If Cortex has already used credits on that request, Berse warns you first. Stop and charge charges them and saves nothing. Keep working lets Cortex carry on.

Anything that fails on our side isn't charged. Each finished request shows the credits it used. If you run out of credits halfway, Cortex waits: add credits and press Continue.

Undoing a request

Under each saved request you'll find Back to before this request. Your site goes back to how it was, as a new version.

If other changes came after it, they're undone too. Everything stays in History, so you don't lose anything.

Working with other people

If you share the project, everyone sees the current request live and who asked for it. Only the person who asked answers its questions, unless they've been away from Studio for a while. See Inviting people and roles.
