How credits work

What uses credits, in what order they're spent, when they renew and where you see how many you have left.

Everything Cortex does uses credits: creating a site, editing it, reviewing it or making suggestions. Here's how they're spent, when they renew, and how to keep going when they run out.

What uses credits

  • Creating a new site. It's what uses the most: a new Made by Cortex site uses about 300 credits.
  • Each change you ask Cortex for, which uses far less than creating a site.
  • Integration conversations, SEO suggestions, Pulse proposals, and reading the images and sites you attach.

Editing by hand in Design or Code doesn't use credits. Neither does publishing.

Credits reflect real usage, so the same kind of change can cost a little differently depending on what it involves. If something fails on our side, it isn't charged.

The order they're spent in

  1. First, your plan's monthly credits. They renew every month.
  2. Then your additional credits: welcome credits and the packs you buy. These don't expire.

On Pro and Business, monthly credits you don't use carry over to the next month, up to one month's worth.

Where you see your balance

  • In the header: a ring with the credits you have left, for example "427 / 750". Tap it to see more.
  • In Usage & credits: open it from your account menu. You see your balance, when it renews, Recent usage action by action, and a recommendation based on your pace.

Inside a project with credits set aside, the ring shows that project's credits. See Credits set aside for a project.

Warnings

Berse lets you know when you've used 75% of your monthly credits, and again at 90%. When you run out, Cortex stops until they renew or you add more; your site stays online and you can keep editing it by hand.

To keep going sooner, use Upgrade plan or Add credits. If the workspace isn't yours, ask whoever manages it.

Live preview

Live preview has hours included in your plan, separate from credits. When you reach the limit it pauses, and it only uses credits if you choose Keep watching it live: about 250 per active hour. You're never charged without choosing it. See Live preview.

Stopping a request on a Made by Cortex site

If you stop Cortex while it's working, what it has already used is charged and nothing is saved. Berse warns you first with Stop and charge.
